Natsukashi Day

Today we walked a lot.  We walked from Shibuya to Ometesando to Meiji Jingu and down the narrow streets of Harajuku.  Stopped by a kaiten sushi place for lunch and then headed on the subway to Akasaka to see the American Embassy compound where I used to live.  The guards wouldn't let me in (they made that clear when I approached them making a big X sign with their arms, saying "dame") so we just walked along the road to Roppongi.  Then we headed into Azabu Juban to check out my old school, Nishimachi.  After that we were on a mission to find the restaurant Gai Gai, a supposed stellar yakitori spot.  Unfortunately after several attempts, including someone walking us "almost there"  we just couldn't find it, so headed up to Roppongi hills for some nice views and found a Robotaya restaurant there that was pretty good.  The cucumber in a spicy chili pickled sauce and the grilled octopus with crushed ume were the winners in my opinion.

Below are some pics from my old hood - Azabu Juban and Roppongi Hills.

  1. Nishimachi has certainly grown! Did you see any old teachers? Would love to go into Pompador Bakery again!
