We then took the subway to an art gallery that Hilary wanted to check out; an exhibition of the photographer Susan Lipper. Mundane situations that were beautiful. The guy running the gallery is an old time industrial music guy and knows Blixa Bargeld. I was impressed.
After checking out a few shops we walked over to Akihabara; the electronics district. It was overwhelming, even for me. Fortunately I found the USB cable for my portable sound recorder I was looking for.
Then it was back to Shibuya where we found a great spot for a shiatsu massage. After that Hilary went back to the hotel to chill for a bit and I went down to explore the basement food floor of tokyu Hans department store. It's an amazing assortment of every kind of food specialty you can imagine, each vendor selling from their tiny stalls. You can pretty much try everything which was awesome.
Then we met up for dinner with Atsushi and Hiro; two old school Berklee friends I haven't seen in years. We started out at a Kyushu based Izakaya. They had some good dishes; lightly fried sardines and homemade tofu were great. After that Hilary decided to go back to the hotel and we went on to eat at a Yakiniku spot on the 12th floor of a building in the midst of over 20 different grilled meat spots. It was pretty good, but I actually liked the grilled onigiri and Japanese pickles the best. After that Hiro suggested we go to a little techno bar. We got there and my first impression was what cool vibe this place has. It would be perfect for a kodomo show. The owner was there and we were talking with him for a while and he asked if I wanted to play a show there on the 8th. I eagerly accepted. From there we hopped in a cab for a late night ramen snack. I had the tonkotsu ramen with extra bamboo. That hit the spot.
